The only known cause of mesothelioma is
exposure to asbestos. Even small amounts of
asbestos and infrequent exposure can cause injuries.
Exposure to asbestos fibers usually occurs in
at-risk workplace environments. It is
important to understand that this disease was
preventable. Many of the corporations that
manufactured and profited from the sale of
asbestos-containing products were aware of the
hazards of asbestos.

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that occurs in
individuals exposed to asbestos. Mesothelioma
victims have either inhaled or swallowed asbestos
fibers which then travel through the body and become
lodged in different tissues. The most common origin
site for mesothelioma is the pleura, which
is the protective membrane lining the lungs. This is
known as pleural mesothelioma. Mesothelioma
can also occur in the peritoneum, which is
the lining around the abdomen. In very rare cases it
can occur in the pericardium, the
lining around the heart, and in the tunica
vaginalis testis, which lines the male
reproductive tissues. Each year between twenty-five
hundred and four thousand people are diagnosed with mesothelioma,
and even more with other asbestos-related diseases.
Mesothelioma has a very long latency period.
The time between the exposure to
asbestos and the onset of the disease is at least 10 years and as many as 70 years after
exposure. That means that a worker in a factory or
shipyard or otherwise exposed in the 1940’s or
1950’s may not experience any symptoms of
mesothelioma until this year.
If you worked in a high-risk industry and have been
diagnosed with mesothelioma, or you have lost
someone to an asbestos-related illness, it is your
right to seek compensation from those responsible
for your situation.
Mesothelioma is a debilitating and aggressive
disease. It is important that you file a claim
within a specified time period from the date that
you receive your diagnosis. If you neglect to pursue
litigation within the Statute of Limitations, you
may lose your right to seek damages. Please
contact us immediately to begin the claim process.
